   Patient Rights >

The First 24 Hours

Patients will be referred to Precourt Healing Center via an approved beahvioral health agency or hospital system. Walk-ins and self-referrals will not be permitted. If you or a loved one are in crisis, please call 9-8-8 (outside of Eagle County) or Vail Health Behavioral Health Crisis Services at (970) 306-4673 (within Eagle County). Vail Health Behavioral Health provides local crisis response, and local emergency departments will work closely with this team to determine what level of care is the best fit for each patient's specific needs and where these services are available.

Within the first 24 hours of admission, patients will meet with members of our care team for assessment. These assessments help us gain a better understanding of the patient's needs, allowing us to tailor a treatment plan that best supports their journey. A case manager will also meet with patients to discuss options for ongoing outpatient care and plan for a smooth transition when they leave our program. If needed, a medical doctor may conduct a physical examination and provide minor medical care during a stay. If a higher level of medical attention is required, our staff will coordinate care with Vail Health Hospital to ensure patients receive the treatment they need.

After initial assessments, a member of the treatment team will meet with the patient and their family or support system if they wish—to share our initial impressions, collaborate on treatment goals, and discuss the expected length of stay. Our team is committed to providing not only the best possible care while patients are here, but also to ensure they have the necessary support for continued healing after they leave. We work closely with our patients to arrange appropriate after-care services, whether with Vail Health Behavioral Health or other trusted providers in the patient’s community.

We understand that the first 24 hours of admission can feel overwhelming, with heightened emotions, uncertainty, and a strong desire for answers. Please know that we are here to guide patients and their support systems through this process. Our goal is to provide patients with the resources, tools, and encouragement needed to move forward on their healing path. We are honored to walk alongside all patients as they take this important step toward wellness. Thank you for choosing the Precourt Healing Center- where healing starts and the road to recovery begins.

Family & Support Visitation

We deeply value the role of family, support systems, and loved ones in a patient's healing process. We strive to create a balance between meaningful connection and the therapeutic environment needed for healing.

Who Can Visit?

When patients feel ready for visitors, the treatment team will work to develop a list of patient-approved visitors. This can include family, friends or other supportive persons. Parents/guardians must provide permission for approved visitors for adolescent patients.

To ensure your comfort and well-being, visitors must be approved by you in collaboration with a patient's treatment team. Patients have the right to change their mind about approved visitors at any time. Children under 18 may visit with prior approval from the treatment team and must be accompanied by an adult.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are scheduled at designated times throughout the day. Our treatment team will work with patients to determine the best times for visits based on their individual care plan. Should family or support groups need specific accommodations that do not align with our set visiting hours, just let us know. We are often able to accommodate visitors' individual needs, while also protecting patient and staff schedules.

  • Each patient may have up to two visitors at a time. Exceptions may be made by the treatment team when appropriate.
  • Visitors under 18 years of age must be approved by the treatment team and accompanied by an adult during their visit.
  • Visitors must check in and out with security upon arrival and departure and provide a valid ID for verification.
  • For safety, all visitors will be screened by security using a metal detector wand and escorted to the visitation area by a staff member.
  • All personal items brought in by visitors must be placed in a provided locker.

Visiting from out of town? The Precourt Healing Center is conveniently located in the heart of Edwards, Colorado with a variety of lodging options and restaurants just minutes away.

Items & Gifts for Patients

To maintain a safe and healing environment, all items brought in by visitors must be approved by the security and treatment team. All personal or mail deliveries must be checked and inventoried by staff before being given to a patient. All items given to a patient will be logged as a patient belonging and access may be limited or restricted based on care plans.

Food and drinks may only be brought in with prior approval from the treatment team. Bringing any illegal substances, drugs, or alcohol is strictly prohibited and will result in security notifying law enforcement, as well as limiting future visitation privileges.

Respecting the Healing Environment

Visitors are not permitted in patient rooms to ensure privacy and therapeutic space for all. In the event of an emergency or if a patient requires additional support, visitors may be asked to return to the lobby for a short time. Patients can meet with their attorney, clergyperson, physician or other professional at a reasonable time by requesting a visit through staff.

Staying Connected

Patients with a personal cell phone at admission will be asked to sign and follow a Phone Use Agreement which details device expectations and procedure during their stay. The Precourt Healing Center staff will apply lens tamper evident security tape to cover cameras and prevent photos or videos from being taken. If personal cell phone usage causes a patient to destabilize or creates a danger to the patient’s self or others, staff will restrict access until further evaluation. Charging stations are provided in the staff working areas and staff will assist patients with charging their devices as needed. Phone access will be provided to patients who do not have a personal cell phone with them.

The Treatment Team

The Precourt Healing Center provides patients with an interdisciplinary treatment team that includes the attending psychiatrist, psychologists, advanced practice providers (nurse practitioners and physician assistants), behavioral health therapists, registered nurses, behavioral health technicians, case managers, and creative therapy practitioners (i.e., health coaches, yoga instructors or art and music teachers, etc.). If you ever feel the need to speak with a member of your treatment team outside of your scheduled visits, please let your nurse or case manager know, and they will assist in coordinating a time.

Psychiatric Provider

As part of their treatment team, patients will have an opportunity to work with a Psychiatrist (MD or DO), a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or a Psychiatric Physician Assistant who will help guide their treatment and ensure that their care plan meets their individual needs. Our Psychiatry team will oversee their treatment, medication management, and overall well-being while they are in the hospital. They will have daily check-ins with their provider to review progress, discuss any concerns, and make any necessary adjustments to care.

Therapist, Behavioral Health Provider and/or Counselor

Licensed behavioral health providers (often referred to as counselors or therapists) will also serve as an integral part of the care team. This may include Psychologists, Licensed Clinical Social Workers, Licensed Professional Counselors, or clinicians with candidate status. Our Behavioral Health Provider Team specializes in providing individual and group therapy tailored to patients' unique needs. Their therapist will work closely with them to provide a safe, supportive space where they can explore challenges, build coping strategies, and develop tools for long-term healing. Therapy is an important part of recovery, and we encourage patients to engage fully in both individual and group sessions to get the most out of their time here. If patients have any questions or preferences regarding their therapy sessions or treatment approach, please don’t hesitate to share them with the care team.

Case Manager

Patients will also be assigned a case manager who will work closely with them throughout their stay and may also work with them beyond their time at the Precourt Healing Center. The case manager plays a vital role in ensuring that patients receive personalized support, treatment coordination, and a smooth transition back to daily life. A case manager will meet with patients individually to discuss treatment goals and progress, as well as other aspects of their life that either support or create a barrier to their achievement of well-being. For example, case managers can often assist with house or food insecurity, employment, childcare support, medicaid enrollment, and other aspects of living that impact a patient's overall health. The case manager will work with patients and their family or support system to develop a discharge plan that supports their continued healing and will assist in connecting them with resources in their local community, including outpatient therapy, support groups, and other mental health services to ensure they have ongoing care after leaving the Precourt Healing Center.

Registered Nurses (RN)

Our compassionate and dedicated nursing team will be there to support patients throughout their treatment journey. The nursing team will assist with the admission and discharge process, ensuring a smooth transition in and out of care. This team will also oversee the unit’s daily operations to maintain a safe and supportive environment for all patients. Our nurses will also monitor and assess for any medical or psychological concerns, working closely with patients' care teams to ensure they receive the appropriate treatment.

Behavioral Health Technician (BHT)

Our Behavioral Health Technicians (BHTs) are an essential part of a patient's care team. They will provide direct support, guidance, and encouragement throughout a patient's stay. Additionally, BHTs work to ensure a safe and structured environment by monitoring the unit and assisting with daily routines. They support patients in reaching treatment goals by engaging in group settings and therapeutic activities. BHTs also serve as the first point of contact for any immediate needs, concerns, or questions related to a patient's care.

Medical Physician or Medical Advanced Practice Provider (APP)

We recognize that physical health plays an important role in a patient's overall well-being and recovery. As part of the care team, a medical provider may be assigned to complete a physical exam and provide any necessary medical care during a patient's stay. This medical professional will conduct a physical exam to assess general health and address any immediate medical concerns. This provider will also monitor and manage any chronic health conditions that may impact treatment or medication effectiveness. The medical physician or medical advanced practice provider will also collaborate with the patient's psychiatric provider and care team to ensure that their treatment plan supports both their mental and physical well-being. If a patient experiences any medical concerns or needs to speak with a medical provider during their stay, please let a nurse or member of the care team know. Medical physician or medical advanced practice provider visits may occur in person or via telehealth.
