Pero el c\u00e1ncer no es la \u00fanica batalla que ha tenido que librar.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"margin-top:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50);margin-bottom:var(--wp--preset--spacing--50)\">\u201cLo m\u00e1s dif\u00edcil fue regresar a casa,\u201d dice, \u201cy que solo me conocieran como \u2018el ni\u00f1o con c\u00e1ncer\u2019. Nadie quer\u00eda hablar conmigo en la escuela porque ten\u00edan miedo de decir algo. O simplemente no sab\u00edan c\u00f3mo enfrentarme\u2026 Yo no quer\u00eda ser el ni\u00f1o con c\u00e1ncer. No quer\u00eda ser la persona que estaba da\u00f1ada o rota\u201d.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:33.33%\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"571\" height=\"800\" src=\"http:\/\/www.vailhealthbh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/Finn-main_reg.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-405\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.vailhealthbh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/Finn-main_reg.jpg 571w, https:\/\/www.vailhealthbh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/Finn-main_reg-214x300.jpg 214w, https:\/\/www.vailhealthbh.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2026\/04\/Finn-main_reg-9x12.jpg 9w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 571px) 100vw, 571px\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Depresi\u00f3n despu\u00e9s del c\u00e1ncer<\/strong><br>Finn dice que comenz\u00f3 a tener problemas de salud mental en el momento en que recibi\u00f3 el diagn\u00f3stico.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cPr\u00e1cticamente me deprim\u00ed en el acto y ya no quer\u00eda luchar por mi vida\u201d, dice. \u201cNo quer\u00eda pasar por esto. No ve\u00eda la luz al final del t\u00fanel. Fue muy dif\u00edcil superarlo.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">En los momentos m\u00e1s dif\u00edciles, Finn describe su depresi\u00f3n como una densa niebla que nublaba su estado de \u00e1nimo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cQuer\u00eda ser feliz\u2026 como cuando llega una tormenta y deseas que salga el sol, pero va a llover m\u00e1s y m\u00e1s fuerte hasta que vuelva a haber sol\u201d, explica.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finn dice que el c\u00e1ncer lo cambi\u00f3 profundamente: f\u00edsica, emocional y mentalmente. F\u00edsicamente, perdi\u00f3 m\u00e1s de 11 kilos y no pudo regresar al f\u00fatbol o a las carreras de campo traviesa de la manera en que le hubiera gustado. Sus ojos resultaron da\u00f1ados y su sistema endocrino se desequilibr\u00f3 por completo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cTendr\u00e9 que tomar pastillas de por vida y ponerme inyecciones. Y sabes, eso puede agotar a una persona, especialmente cuando tienes una cicatriz grande en la cabeza y cicatrices por todas partes, y tus venas est\u00e1n moreteadas de que te pinchen y te examinen\u201d, comparte. \u201cEse dolor f\u00edsico se manifest\u00f3 mucho mental y emocionalmente. Espec\u00edficamente, mentalmente\u201d.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hubo un momento durante su segundo a\u00f1o de secundaria en el que Finn dice que se sinti\u00f3 en el punto m\u00e1s bajo de su vida. Simplemente no pod\u00eda ser tan feliz como sol\u00eda serlo. Sus padres notaron su letargo y apat\u00eda extrema, y lo llevaron de regreso al Hospital Infantil, donde le diagnosticaron depresi\u00f3n.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u00c9l no quer\u00eda aceptar nada de eso, ni admitir que estaba \u201cda\u00f1ado y magullado\u201d.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cY tambi\u00e9n fue muy emotivo \u2014comparte\u2014, especialmente cuando est\u00e1s en tratamiento o en un hospital as\u00ed, no sientes que tengas muchas opciones. Y ellos simplemente dicen: \u201dOh, tienes que hacer esto\u201c, o \u2018Vas a hacer esto\u2019.\u2018<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSi sintiera alg\u00fan dolor, solo empeorar\u00eda las cosas. As\u00ed que en su lugar, eleg\u00ed simplemente volverme insensible, como si en realidad no estuviera all\u00ed. Estaba viviendo una especie de desdoblamiento y, debido a eso, tuve muchos problemas para procesar lo que estaba sucediendo y lo que estaba sintiendo. Y ah\u00ed es donde entr\u00f3 mucho la escritura, porque a pesar de que no pod\u00eda sentirlo, pod\u00eda escribir. Mi escritura me da permiso para sentir lo que no siempre puedo expresar.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Un nuevo cap\u00edtulo<\/strong><br>Adem\u00e1s de la pr\u00e1ctica diaria de escribir, Finn atribuye gran parte de su curaci\u00f3n psicol\u00f3gica inicial y continua a asistir a Roundup River Ranch, un campamento para ni\u00f1os que luchan o sobreviven a enfermedades graves.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cCuando fui all\u00e1, no me trataron como a alguien con la cabeza rapada\u201d, comparte.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFui tratado simplemente como un ni\u00f1o que intentaba divertirse. Fui tratado como una persona a la que le robaron parte de su infancia.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finn tambi\u00e9n comenz\u00f3 a ver a un consejero. \u00c9l dice que esto le ayud\u00f3 a ver que su enfermedad solo puede definirlo si \u00e9l lo permite.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo quer\u00eda que eso definiera mi vida, y en una de esas sesiones de terapia me promet\u00ed a m\u00ed mismo nunca dejar que mi dolor se apoderara de mi vida, porque tengo una opci\u00f3n\u201d, dice. \u201cTengo la opci\u00f3n de dejar que mi dolor arruine cada momento, o dejar que construya mi car\u00e1cter. Yo, a partir de entonces, dej\u00e9 que construyera mi car\u00e1cter\u201d.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finn tambi\u00e9n encontr\u00f3 una nueva pasi\u00f3n: el caf\u00e9. \u00c9l dice que fue una de las primeras cosas que devolvi\u00f3 la felicidad a su vida.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSabes, el caf\u00e9 es eso que une a las personas, o el t\u00e9, o lo que sea\u201d, dice. \u201cEs lo que me llev\u00f3 a otras personas para mostrarme como alguien que no est\u00e1 definido por su enfermedad... El caf\u00e9 fue el puente entre mi viejo mundo y mi nuevo mundo. Y mi viejo yo y mi nuevo yo. Y descubrir mi nuevo yo a trav\u00e9s del lente del caf\u00e9 cur\u00f3 en gran medida mi depresi\u00f3n de muchas maneras\u201d.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Finn planea especializarse doblemente o dise\u00f1ar independientemente una especializaci\u00f3n en poes\u00eda y administraci\u00f3n de empresas en Colorado College. Aunque extra\u00f1a a su familia y a sus tres perros, Finn est\u00e1 listo para un nuevo comienzo.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cEstoy muy emocionado de ir a la universidad y que nadie me conozca como \u2018el chico con c\u00e1ncer\u2019. Soy solo Finn, soy una pizarra limpia, una nueva identidad y es emocionante, y tambi\u00e9n es estresante, por supuesto.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Los nuevos desaf\u00edos son inevitables; sin embargo, Finn dice que no tiene miedo de pedir ayuda o apoyo cuando lo necesite.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSi vuelvo a deprimirme o estoy pasando por un momento dif\u00edcil, ya no tengo miedo de pedir ayuda porque ya no tengo miedo de ser etiquetado como alguien \u2018roto\u2019 o \u2018da\u00f1ado\u2019\u201d, comparte. \u201cNo me acept\u00e9 a m\u00ed mismo durante mucho tiempo. Y me ha llevado a\u00f1os poder decir: \u2018Tuve c\u00e1ncer y eso no me define.
